Fall memories....

I just recently realized I completely skipped over the twins' 3rd birthday celebration...

I have been re-motivated by my dear sis & bro-in-law to capture the funny stories and moments that make up our daily lives. So I renew my vow to be more consistent with blogging for the sake of capturing memories for our family. Lord knows I cannot remember anything if I don't write it down!!!

So before I reflect on George & Abigail's birthdays, let me share about a recent huge loss for our family. Matt's maternal grandmother, Lorene Mathilda Hitzfeld Janning, died on October 12 at the wise age of 89. Our lives were strongly affected by Granny (called Oma by great-grands) and she was a fabulous woman and grandmother. She has always been an important part of Matt's life and I grew to love her when Matt and I began dating and took our first roadtrip to Austin to meet her and Grandpa (my little George's namesake). She will be greatly missed and her legacy will live on forever. One positive thing that came of her passing was the family gathering in San Marcos for her memorial rosary. It was fabulous to be with Billy, Jacob, and Aunt Donna at length and wonderful to see other extended family members. She and Grandpa were smiling, we just know it.

Halloween night was fun....started off with all four of us dressing up for the Monster Mash at church with great preschool games. We finished up with trick-or-treating at a few houses with neighbors. Abigail got spooked by a scary mask and didn't mind heading home with her daddy to pass out candy. George was happy with "lotsa candy in my pail"!! Lucky for us, we had so many trick-or-treaters that we ended up passing out most of the candy we collected. Happy Fall!

Another note: We also said goodbye to another family member a week later, Carrie's paternal great aunt "Sis" Lorean Pittman Perry. Favorite memories of Sis: her famous sweet tea (with at least 2 cups of sugar per pitcher), coming up to visit the pig farm when I was a child, learning to play Chinese Checkers with her, and her smart wit, dry humor, and sarcasm that could not be paralleled. It was unspeakable to get to know her better in my adult years while living in Oklahoma. My heart was warmed to have extended family members tell me at her funeral how much she adored George & Abigail and that she talked about them all the time. I pray that through G&A, we will do our part for the Pittman legacy to live on. (Abigail is named for my grandmother Bessie Pittman Martin, who was Sis' older sister)
