George and Abigail will be 6 months old tomorrow...hard to believe! I remember thinking when they were a few days old "We'll never make it to 6 months!" Look how far we have come!
(By the way, as I write this, the babies are sleeping for their morning nap and we have snow falling outside--yesterday, I was outside in a tank top and today it is 32 degrees--welcome to Oklahoma!)
Updates on daily life:
We stopped swaddling the twins to sleep as soon as we returned from Austin. Major accomplishment! Now they sleep in their sleep sacks and stay plenty warm. I also tried to cease pacifiers to sleep, but upon major rebellion from George, decided that one hurdle was enough for that week. One battle at a time.
Major accomplishment: they finally love bathtime!! We have a system: Matt bathes and I lube and clothe them. They are learning to kick the water and are still smiling at the end.
George and Abigail are now eating peas, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, and oatmeal. George is starting to gain a bit of weight...he feels heavier, but the scales still don't show it. ***Note: weighed G tonight and he is 15 lbs. according to our bathroom scale! Woo hoo! We'll see the official weight next week at their 6 month check-up and shots.*** His legs are getting a wee bit chunky and his belly is usually round after eating. Abigail's legs are so plump (she'll be mad at me when she is 15 for saying this!) and adorable. I cannot wrap my whole hand around her thighs!!! Her cheeks are coming back too! It makes me a proud mama to see them growing so well.
They are back to nursing every 3-4 hours at night--yikes! They do the same during the day, which is great, but the nights are tough. Perhaps we have a growth spurt again? It's about that time developmentally...
Abigail still LOVES to be on her tummy. She automatically rolls over to her tummy unless you give her a toy to play with on her back. She pushes her chest completely off of the floor and has learned to scoot backwards. She can't quite figure out how to pull her knees underneath her....but that is a-ok with Mommy!! She wakes up singing and cooing most times and goes to sleep easily for naps. She takes her time with eating and loves everything but peas. She doesn't eat a whole lot, but she gives it her best. Pretty funny when she grabs the spoon full of food with her hand, what a mess! She would rather "talk" than eat (imagine that, my child?). Her hair is still reddish blonde and her bald patch in the back is getting bigger. Such a sweet love, my most intimate moments with her are putting her down for naps when I get right in her face kissing it all over, she just smiles and closes her eyes sleepily. She has turned out to be a very happy baby--a smile and rosy cheeks to melt your heart. Don't get me wrong...she still has a temper. She goes from cheerful and laughing to screaming in .6 seconds. Most of the time she is blissful. When we take her to the nursery at church, Ms. Patsy and Ms. Katie are thrilled to see her (nice reassurance for the parents).
George is getting stronger every day. He can roll from side to side on the floor when on his back and will occasionally roll from his tummy to his back. He is fascinated with toys and loves to manipulate them with his hands. He has become very verbal lately and discovered a new sound this weekend which was hilarious(making an Mmmm sound--open mouth but closed lips). His abdominal muscles are getting so strong and he will definitely have soccer legs with all the kicking. His new thing is wrapping his legs/feet around my arm when we are feeding him solid foods. He found his feet late last week and figured out how to pull off his socks this weekend! Another first this weekend...he now loves to look out the window of the car when we go anywhere--there's a whole world out there. He cracks up laughing when he sees himself in the mirror in the backseat (he laughed the whole way to the Y the other morning). Wonderful little personality; still a cuddlebug and loves to sweetly grab at my face. He cracks up laughing whenever we yell at Boomer, which is a lot of the time. George is a good sleeper like his mommy and takes long naps easily. His face is getting rounder, like it was when he was first born. Still as handsome as his daddy....
We are more in love with them than ever before. They have both stolen our hearts!!!
Happy Half Birthday our little miracles!!
