To parents who cook...

How exactly does one do this task with one, let alone two, crazy toddlers tornado-ing around the house when you are the only parent at home?
What strategies have you found effective? I would like to cook again someday soon. Please share....

I'll be honest, and it's not pretty...TV. That is the only time of day that Lucas is allowed to sit and drool in a coma over his favorite shows. or we just skip cooking and get take out. Finally--I have several friends that get together and have girls-fest and cook (like on a free Sunday evening) making casseroles and other freezables for the whole week at one time...then they can just pop it in the oven one a weeknight and enjoy time with their kids. Oh--sometimes Lucas helps me if we make easy things--he loves to help. I bought this cool thing for our kitchen that enables him to stand safely at countertop height and not fall on the floor.

Just be patient. Cook super easy things now and wait until they turn three. At three, you'll be able to cook again!

Um, first, we accept that it takes 60 to 90 minutes to cook something you could normally do in 30 minutes. Start cooking early. Other strategies. 1. They play outside. But G is old enough to come yell if M gets into trouble. I wouldn't trust your two outside on their own at their age. And we still leave the stove every 5 minutes to check on them. 2. tv. Occasionally they'll watch tv. It makes a great babysitter. 3. Gates. We used gates to block them into certain areas of the house when they were younger. 4. Liberal amounts of wine to chill the chef out.

You could designate a drawer in the kitchen with toys for them and they can play while you cook.

Or, you could prep veggies throughout the day and have less to do at dinner time.
